If you are just starting switching to a Low Carb Program, this site will teach you "how" to do a Low Carbohydrate (carb) Diet, as well as explain "how" and "why" it works.  In addition, it will show you the proper way to shop, cook, and eat in order to lose weight, control Diabetes, drop your cholesterol and triglyceride levels, gain more energy, decrease your blood pressure and your chance of having a heart attack or stroke from blocked coronary artieries, lose weight, and become healthier in general.  Unlike other "diets", by eating "low carbohydrates", you can enjoy the majority of foods you like, plus learn to substitute "unhealthy" foods for "healthy" ones, without giving up taste.

Do not make the mistake of thinking of "low carbing" as a diet, but as a way of learning to eat properly.

A lot of misunderstanding surrounds "low carb" dieting.  Some people think the only thing you can eat are meats, eggs, cheeses, and a few vegetables.  This is not so!  During the fast weight loss portion of this diet, particularly the first couple of weeks, these will be the standard food items to consume; however, it is only a temporary way of eating to speed up weight loss and to rid the body of bad carbohydrates.  Once the body rids itself of most carbs, you will be incorporating a variety of foods such as bread, rolls, pizza, desserts, desserts, and more desserts.  This site will  help you learn what healthy carbs are and what carbs are not.  You will learn to substitute certain ingredients to make sure your carb count is where it needs to be without sacrificing the foods you are use to eating and enjoying.  You will learn the latest facts on low carb dieting, as well as what products are available and where to buy them.  You will learn medical and cooking facts you may not even know, that will aid you on to a healthier lifestyle.

Imagine starting the day with bacon, eggs, and toast, or delicious waffles with tasty syrup.  For lunch enjoy an individual pizza and salad, and for dinner try some good lasagna, cheese bread sticks, and a delicious vegetable.  Your night time snack can be ice cream topped with chocolate, or a good piece of cheese cake or pumpkin pie.  All this is possible.  Please read the entire site as different pages will contain valuable information to make your eating habits have more variety, while being healthier.

The best way to start a new diet is to not just understand what you can't eat, but more importantly, what you can eat. This program will explain how high insulin levels can cause the above diseases.  When you eat a low carbohydrate, high protein diet, your body will metabolize the food that you eat and sugar levels will dramatically decrease.

Dieting is only hard when you have to do without.  By learning how to properly eat, there are very few foods you will not be able to enjoy.  The ones that are forbidden will be substituted with similar products so you will never even miss them.  Please refer to the free Carb Counter, Medical and Cooking Facts, and Questions and Answers to help you learn more.  I have also included a page with pictures of foods that can be bought or purchased in local low carb stores, grocery stores, or health stores, along with their carb count.

YOUR NEW MOTO:  COUNT NET CARBOHYDRATES -  NOT CALORIES,  SUGAR CONTENT,  OR FAT!

Beware of "sugar free foods" because they tend to be extremely high in carbohydrates. You will be concentrating on NET CARBS, which is the total carbs, less the fiber and sugar alcohols.  All products list these items - simply subtract fiber and alcohols because they do not affect the insulin level and are safe to eat.  Please read "A Doctor's Opinion"  to get complete knowledge of how foods affect your body, and why.  Once you understand the hows and whys, this program will become a lot easier.

What is a good carb?  Good carbs cause a slow rise in blood sugar levels and are complex carbohydrates. When a bad carb (a food high in refined white flour and sugar, also known as a simple carbohydrate) is eaten, it makes the blood sugar rise quickly causing the body to increase the insulin.  The insulin then tells the body to store the extra sugar as fuel, which ultimately turns into fat.  Insulin also hurts the body's ability to burn the fat for fuel.  The bad carbs cause blood sugar to crash and then you crave more by getting hungry, and history keeps repeating itself.

It never ceases to amaze me that the critics claim this is an unhealthy diet because YOU NEED CARBS!  Of course you do, and you will be getting all the carbs you need.  You will be reintroducing breads, pastas and baked goods, etc. back into your diet.  The only difference is they will be made with ingredients that are healthy.

People and different diets can lie!  The old fashion "blood test" will not!  As with any diet, always consult your doctor and make sure to have your blood, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels taken so your doctor has some way to monitor your progress.
